Bed & Breakfast at Barbiel

We look forward to welcoming you to our secluded farmhouse in the Midi-Pyrénées, south-west France. The house is in a tiny, tranquil hamlet in the Tarn, close to the Aveyron border. Albi, the capital city of the Tarn département, is 35 minutes' drive to the west of Barbiel.

The house has two guest bedrooms in the newly renovated adjacent barn, with independent access (ground floor on right in photo) and a small kitchen area with fridge, hob and microwave. Each bedroom has a shower room with WC.

Room 1 has twin beds or a large double bed

Shower Room    (Room 2)

Room 2 has a large double bed with cot/child bed if required

View of the Gaycre valley from the terrace

We serve breakfast with home-made jams and fresh fruit on the patio or the terrace. Guests are welcome to use the sunbeds and barbecue on our large terrace. This has magnificent views of the valley of the Gaycre, a tributary of the river Tarn. At present we have a plunge pool for cooling off!

From the house there is a spectacular 15 minute drive down to the river Tarn itself and the village of Trébas where there are cafés, restaurants and shops. There is a Sunday morning farmers' market in July and August. Alternatively, at a similar distance from Barbiel but downstream on the Tarn, is the strikingly attractive village of Ambialet, situated within a loop in the river, which also has cafés and restaurants. In the opposite direction there is a good supermarket only 10 minutes’ drive from the house in the town of  Réquista, in the Aveyron, where there are also all amenities and a municipal swimming pool.
During the holiday season, Easter to the end of October, there are several good restaurants within 15 minutes’ drive of Barbiel. Out of season fewer are open locally but in Albi you will be spoilt for choice. We will be happy to make recommendations.

Barbiel is ideally placed for exploring both the Tarn and the Aveyron départements. There are opportunities nearby for activities such as rambling, cycling, canoeing, swimming, fishing, horse-riding and golf. You can visit the Gaillac wine region in the west of the Tarn, the spectacular fortified bastide villages which include Cordes, Penne, Puycelsi (designated ‘one of the most beautiful villages of France’) and Bruniquel, the mountainous Lacaune region in the south-east. You must not miss the lovely ancient Cathar city of Albi, where you can visit the magnificent 13th century red brick cathedral with its stunning painted interior. The artist Toulouse Lautrec was born in Albi; the Musée Toulouse Lautrec is excellent and you can also visit his childhood home at Château du Bosc. East into the Aveyron, among other things to see there is the splendid new bridge at Millau, as well as the Gorges du Tarn, Roquefort cheese factories and more villages classed as les plus beaux villages de France than in any other département.
